Human Rights Train Arrives In Istanbul

ISTANBUL, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- A human rights train, which set off with a mission to raise awareness about human rights across Turkey, arrived here on Wednesday.
    
The train launched the special journey from Turkey's third populous city of Izmir by the Aegean Sea on September 9.
    
This year is the 20th anniversary of Turkey's signing of the UN Declaration of Child Rights, the activities were designed to keep children's rights, this year's theme, in primary focus.
    
After visiting 42 stations in 35 provinces and eight regions during its 51-day journey, the train's final celebration will be held on Thursday, Turkey's Independence Day, and will feature human rights-themed music, theater and games.
    
With the motto "Freedom is Our Right," the train was part of project organized jointly by the Daily News newspaper and Turkish State Railways. It stopped in all provinces with railroad stations.
    
Human rights in Turkey are protected by a variety of international law treaties, which takes precedence over domestic legislation, according to the 1982 Constitution.
    
The issue of human rights is of high importance for the negotiations with the European Union.
