Syrian-italian Study On Developing Railway Network

Syrian-italian Study On Developing Railway Network - 07/12/2009

Damascus - A study on developing Damascus-Aleppo railway was discussed by Ministry of Transportation and Italian Italferr Company.

The study aims at increasing the trains' speed in order to reach 155km per hour and improving the railway safety

Minister of Transport Yarob Badr inspected with a delegation from the company the procedures needed to complete the feasibility study of the project.

"Considering the other project studies on railway networks in the neighboring countries is necessary because this railway is going to be part of the network connecting Turkey towards Europe and Jordan towards Saudi Arabia and the Gulf."

Accordingly, the Minister added that Damascus-Aleppo Railway should follow future development and match the specific speeds of those networks.

Badr called for making a regional joint study on railway networks and providing available efforts in the countries concerned.
