Job Description
Department & how it relates to the role Government and Corporate Affairs is responsible for the professional and consistent management of all internal and external stakeholder relationships in order to deliver an improved reputation for Network Rail. This includes communication with all employees, national and local government, the media, external liaison, and Network Rail’s members. The function is also responsible for managing the brand and visual image of Network Rail. The teams within G&CA work to develop trust and understanding with stakeholders, using effective channels of communications to build positive relationships. Three million people travel on Britain’s rail network every day; because we touch the lives of millions, we’re never far away from the news headlines leading a vital industry that is always a focus of political attention. As a Communications Manager in our growing team, you’ll engage in community consultation, develop and manage local campaigns, manage sensitive issues and build relationships with a variety of stakeholder groups. About the role (External) Leading our communications on Crossrail, you’ll be responsible for developing and implementing consistent and effective communications strategies. You’ll manage stakeholder communication activities - media, public affairs, community relations and internal – and produce detailed communications plans. As the focal point for all external activity, you’ll ensure that relationships are appropriately managed and will control all external communications activity undertaken by the Project Director and their team. You’ll be the brand champion for the project, ensuring that branding, visual identity and image used on the project is consistent with the Network Rail message and overall communications strategy. It’s not necessary for you to have rail industry experience. In fact, what will set you apart is your motivation and natural flair for dealing with people at all levels. Do you have….? Strong experience at a management level gained either in an agency or busy press office? A thorough understanding of London, including its government, the associated GLA bodies and the boroughs? Extensive experience leading corporate communications across a wide range of external audiences? Qualification to degree level, or equivilent? Experience of successfully managing projects or campaigns? Are you….? An expert communicator, both in writing and verbally? Able to demonstrate your ability to influence managers and key senior stakeholders? A diplomatic individual with a confident approach to relationship building? Able to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences?
