Job Description

Department & how it relates to the role

The Crossrail project aims to deliver 24 trains an hour through 23km of new subsurface railway infrastructure under central London, continuing outwards to the east and west over 76km of some of the most congested and complex rail infrastructure in the UK. The Crossrail project is jointly sponsored by the Department for Transport (DfT) and Transport for London (TfL) and is being developed via a joint-venture company Cross London Rail Links (CLRL). A significant amount of work is required to Network Rail’s surface network and the interfaces between Network Rail and CLRL, DfT & TfL are considerable. A project team has been formed within Network Rail to manage these going forward.

The Reading Station Area Redevelopment Project is part of the Crossrail Reading Programme. RSAR provides significant benefits at Reading Station and to the surrounding infrastructure including 5 new platforms, new station entrances, a new transfer deck with step free access to all platforms, grade separated junctions, remodelled and re-signalled layouts and a new train care depot.

About the role (External)

This is an opportunity to work with the latest E&P technology to put in place design solutions that will help create a world class rail infrastructure for the twenty-first century.

As a Project Engineer on Crossrail / Reading Station Area Re-development, first and foremost, you’ll care about good design. You’ll work alongside our design houses to ensure their designs will work in practice. You’ll also make sure designs provide all the functionality required by our sponsors who include Crossrail, TfL and RfL. All this is to be achieved while providing value for money, and meeting all relevant standards.

By joining us now, you’ll be part of taking a major project from design to completion, making this an excellent opportunity to build your experience in a growing area of the rail industry.

You’ll be dealing with a real diversity of work including traction power and work to stations, and projects ranging from the small to large projects, such as supporting new signalling on the Western Route and 2 km of new overhead lines to the east of London.

We’re working to the highest degrees of accuracy and quality, so you’ll be honing your skills working in a team committed to excellence, using state-of-the-art technology and processes.

Do you have….?

Past E&P design experience and/ or substantial E&P construction experience?
Rail experience or a strong M&E background which includes both design and construction?
Experience on a range of technically complex, varied and successful projects?
A relevant qualification? Depending on the role, you’ll need a minimum of a HNC/ HND in electrical or mechanical engineering, or commensurate work experience.
Experience of working to RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety)?
An appreciation of the product approval process?
