Job Description

Overview:

The time is right to join HNTB Corporation. We are seeking candidates for the position of Transit Senior Project Manager in our Los Angeles office.

The Transit Senior Project Manager will serve as Senior Project Manager on Los Angeles Rail/Transit projects. This individual will also work closely with HNTB Division and National/Divisional Transit Practice Leaders (Service Group) to identify, pursue and secure new, additional rail and transit related projects in the District. The Transit Senior Project Manager will be responsible for maintaining HNTB’s competitiveness, evaluating its effectiveness, and for developing new or modified sub-services that respond to the present and future needs of the marketplace. The Transit Senior Project Manager is expected to have on-going contact with clients and prospects for the purpose of evaluating the market and determining HNTB’s responsiveness to it.

Specific responsibilities include:

Technical

* Create and implement work plans to achieve client expectations including developing alternative analyses; preliminary engineering; or final design.
* Develop, implement and monitor QC program, including the development of quality standards.
* Develop and implement technical programs, workshops and seminars to advance the technical quality of HNTB’s service.
* Assist district in the hiring and development of quality technical staff.
* Conduct CPD discussions with staff and provide feedback on performance

Marketing/Business Development

* Work closely with Division Sales Officer and Service Group to develop a 3-year, rolling strategic plan with annual up-dates. The plan will include:

a. Identification and reasonable quantification of the market.
b. Assessment of competition to determine how HNTB can develop or maintain a competitive edge.
c. Development of reasonable goals that are consistent with the market and the firm’s growth and profit objectives and reflect corresponding priorities in the service and sub-disciplines.
d. Define overall strategies on how HNTB can achieve goals.
e. Evaluation of HNTB’s service delivery and quality in consideration of the goals.
f. Identification of resources needed to implement the strategies.
g. Continuous evaluation of strategies & tactics based on measured results.
h. Coordinate with division staff to implement strategic initiatives.

* Participate in the business development efforts on Mega Projects and those efforts considered to be of strategic importance to the division. This direction will include the war room effort and the management of staff and dollar resources.
* Monitor district activities in relation to the overall plan and report on the status of implementation to the Service Group quarterly.
* Develop alliance strategies and lead development of strategic alliances within the division.
* Identify and coordinate the development and firm wide implementation of expanded services and new sub-services based upon emerging needs of clients and competitive advantage.
* Identify and develop service offerings that take advantage of HNTB’s multi-discipline capability.
* Participate in recommending hiring key staff.
* Work within the Service Line to develop and implement effective marketing positioning and support programs.

Client Satisfaction

* Monitor overall quality of HNTB’s service delivery through direct in-put from clients.
* Evaluate division’s capability to deliver service in a quality manner. Report evaluation to the Chairman least quarterly.

Administration

* Assist in the equitable distribution of work. Coordinate with other office liaisons as required to assign resources to meet near term and long term needs.
* Assist to develop and monitor appropriate marketing budget.
* Evaluate and make recommendations for improving overall profitability within the service line.
* Coordinate and assist in the direction of the efforts of the Service Group within the district and the Division.

Qualifications:

* Bachelors degree in Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning or related fields.
* Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in California
* Minimum of 20 years of Transit related experience in progressively responsible positions with an emphasis on rail and light rail transit projects, experience with Metrolink, LA Metro, MTA, and related transit agencies preferred.
* Senior Project Management experience required with demonstrated experience at profitably managing major (USD 10 Million +) projects. Experience must include final design projects that included the management of 20+ resources (employees and sub-consultants) to deliver on time and within budget guidelines.
* Effective client management skills. Experience should include solid relationships with senior level officials within various transportation agencies within the State. Must also have a solid track record of successfully winning new work.
* Excellent relationship building and listening skills
* Active in relevant professional organizations including American Society of Civil Engineers, American Railroad Engineering Association, American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association
